What's New For Cadillac SRX In 2006?

2006 Cadillac SRX

Published: Nov 26, 2005

If you thought Cadillac would rest on its laurels with the 2006 SRX, you are mistaken. Though this luxury car division of General Motors isn’t totally redesigning the midsize crossover SUV, it has undergone some changes and enhancements.

The SRX, offered as a 3.6-liter V-6 (260 horsepower at 6500 rpm) or a 4.6-liter V-8 (320 hp at 6400 rpm) comes with a standard rear-wheel drive and an optional all-wheel drive.

Equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission, the SUV with its chiseled vertical headlamps and V-shaped grille, gets an independent front/rear suspension, power vented disc brakes with antilock brakes and traction control. Standard safety features include driver and front-passenger airbags and side-impact airbags, and a head curtain for the second-seat passenger.

For 2006, Cadillac offers the power rear liftgate as a standard feature. Also, the stepover for exiting the SRX has been lowered. A new and optional wood package and cashmere interior color also are offered. And the exterior now also comes with more colors such as Stealth Gray, Radiant Bronze, Blackberry and Infrared. The 17- and 18-inch wheels have been aggressively redesigned with six exposed lugs and a prominent wreath and crest center cap.

One of my favorite features of the SRX is the Ultraview sunroof, which opens up to offer 5.6 square feet of open air, going past the first- and second-row seat. If you have picked an ARX with the third-row seat — so you can accommodate up to seven passengers — opt for the Ultraview Plus, which extends all the way over the third-row seat with a power sunshade. Such partial open-air motoring makes perfect sense in the Sunshine State.

Loaded with comfort and convenience features such as leather seats, dual zone climate control, power driver seat, power and heated outside mirrors, and an ultrasonic rear park assist, the SRX is a strong contender in the burgeoning crossover SUV market.

It is a pleasure to step into the luxurious and roomy vehicle. The fun continues when you step on the gas and drive away to your destination in comfort and style. The 2006 additions even further enhance the thrill of owning this premium medium SUV.
